Historical Background

George Lucas is one of the most influential storytellers and film pioneers of our time. From Star Wars to Indiana Jones to The Land Before Time, his films are an indellible part of our American pop culture. Beyond writing, directing and producing many feature films, Lucas is also responsible for revolutionizing our movie-going experience.

THX, the immersive surround sound experience that wraps the viewer in multi-directional sound was his brainchild. The high standards that we've come to expect of special effects owe a large part to the work of his Industrial Light & Magic visual effects company. The production company he founded, Lucasfilm, is one of the most successful of all time, grossing billions of dollars in revenue from the films.

This week, we're looking at the feature films that George Lucas wrote, directed and produced. If you'd like to participate, create your viz and post your work to Tableau Public and Twitter with the hashtag #ThrowbackDataThursday, tagging @TThrowbackThurs. We'd really love to see what you can come up with!
